Women are surely taking the world by storm, thanks to those few who stick their neck out, to change the status quo or change the narrative. This week, it is our pleasure to introduce Professor Bolatito Lanre-Abass, a scholar and researcher, who recently got elevated to professorship cadre, the peak of any academic career, from the premier university in Nigeria.
The intriguing thing about Professor Lanre-Abass story is the fact that she broke an age-long history, not one, but two in a 69-year old institution.
Bolatito Lanre-Abass is University of Ibadan First Female Muslim Professor and First Female Professor from her department, the Department of Philosophy.
Bolatito had her first and second degree at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and went further to earn a doctorate degree in Philosophy from University of Ibadan. She was one of the 13 new professors announced by the institution’s vice-chancelor, Prof. Idowu Olayinka recently.
Professor Lanre-Abass is a feminist- a proud one, and an ethicist. Most of her research works are focused on Ethics and epistemology, two very important branches of Philosophy.
Presently, she is carrying out a research work on the following (according to the university website);
- Humanistic Morality and the Hobbesian social contract theory.
- Islamic account of creation and the challenges of Human Cloning.
We are so proud of this woman, a great example of a strong black woman and an inspiration to many out there.
We would be interviewing her soon and asking her a lot of questions, so you would know her journey, challenges and victories. Kindly keep an eye on this space and feel free to send in your questions (that you might want us to ask her on your behalf) through our contact us page.
